Ok here we go
So my chemo went well. Except for the iv part. When you insert the iv into the vein, go in further puncture the back wall of the vein then your patient yells ouch really loud and you are wondering why you are Not getting any flow back and the vein immediately swells, you missed you 22 year old. So she was gonna go at it again and I sweetly said no honey, you shot the good vein in that arm and I am getting a whopping hematoma go get someone else. so Peggy came and popped it in in 2 seconds, it is problem about every 5th time. The people that draw blood I have learned to tell them to use a butterfly, it isn't a smaller needle it is angled, and easier to insert they use it in infants. I used to work at a urologists office and i have filled my share of vacutainers. Why are these people so torturous. Just concentrate and go slow and be gentle. I look like a junkie, if I get pulled over they are going to think I am on something. Anyways, I feel good. They put steroid in the chemo mix so I will be jacked up for 2 days. Then I will crash. So glad to know I am anemic, that explains so much but i know it is going to take a couple of weeks to feel the iron.that is ok. Gotta get an Easter outfit. All we are having for Easter dinner is deviled eggs. No honey baked ham or lamb chops. Any suggestions? So sick of chicken, maybe Cornish game hens with apricot glaze or shrimp on the barbie. That would be quick. Ok that is it for now. Have a great day. More later.

Sounds like you have just gone through a lot! I'm glad they sourced why you have been so weak and tired. I hope that you do as well on this chemo round as the last one. (Or Better!). Thinking of you always .....xo, Michelle
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the Iron thing and also wondering if you had a potassium deficiency (from being dehydrated), that's a big energy drain. And yes, good for you for being pro-active and telling them when you know there's a better way to do something.
ReplyDeleteHow about some grilled Salmon with fresh basil and Lemon to go with those deviled eggs? Salmon is such a great source of Omega 3 and one of the good oily fishes, and yummy. Wild caught of course :)
Is it too late for the doctor to put a Power Port into your chest for your remaining chemo treatments? It is so much easier than getting poked every time.
ReplyDeleteDo you now take iron pills for your anemia? Glad you found the source of your tiredness.
For some reason my comments never post. Not doing iron pills because they constipate. My Dr. Does not like ports. He says it is a tube inside a tube and and is a source of infection. So there you have it. I just need the seasoned nurses to do the iv.
ReplyDeleteInserting IV's is an art. Hopefully you'll get a really great artist next time. I always have trouble getting IV's and blood draws and I agree about the butterfly, that's the way to go. Sending Easter hugs to you.
ReplyDeletehmmm. salmon... pasta...basil.. olive oil...some beautiful fresh peas..finally combined in the big skillet..steamed asparagus or a steamed artichoke cooked in herbs with some kind of dipping sauce......it's starting to come to me...you know... 5 of the best, organic, beautiful ingredients you can find...
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are OK. Been asking extra blessings for you. Let me know how your dance card is for tomorrow. Walking the new lake renovation with the designer around lunchtime tomorrow, but I'm available otherwise...
