The 70's
Being at mom's is a flashback to the 70's. All my friends I grew up with have been in touch and it has made me reflect on the past. I can see in my minds eye Suzanna and I riding bikes. We would go down Mrs. ballengers driveway and up and down the street. You have not lived until you get your bell bottom tangled in a bike chain. I see Beth and Leslie racing on big wheels down the driveway. I see Leslie and Deavours chunking their mrs. Beasley dolls down the stairs. I think whoevers head fell off first won. I can see Jay and I with wrist rockets shooting green pine cones at each other. I remember the whole neighborhood playing kick the can in the summer. The kids don't play like that anymore. We were always in the street. I remember David Simmons and his potty mouth screaming fuck at all the kids. he was such a turd. I can see the mitchells,s. Meg and I were friends until she got caught smoking and blamed me. I never spoke to her again. I can see Suzanna and myself in our little bell bottom jeans with our little suede shoes listening to John Denver and don McLean on our little 8 track. I see Dan Dan taking training wheels off so we could ride like big girls. And p Margaret with her koolaid concoctions, cheese sandwiches, and her jumble in her white maids outfit. Oh and the Carpenters too. We were always playing music. Beth and jay and I used to go to the oaks and swim. The 7, the 10, how much fun. Loved that pool. It is all theremin my minds eye. I can lay here and just flash back. Skating with Eloise, girl scouts, Miss Woodall the bus driver, ....... Here is to memories.

KC and the Sunshine Band!! Oh hell yeah. I had a Mrs. Beasley doll too. My favorite jeans were pink bell bottoms that got riuned my bike chain grease. I had blue suade clogs with flowers embroidered on them and of course, my Laurie Partridge hair. I am so flashing with you!
ReplyDeleteI had purple hip buggers with flowers down the legs. The partridge family was the bomb, but I dream of jeannie rocked too!
ReplyDeleteI forgot abt the Oaks! I remember jumping off the diving board with my inflatable ring and nearly killing myself. You also made me remember my blue patent leather clogs that gave me blood blisters when I was 5. Did you ever ride down the hill by the Halls with no hands? I thought that was pretty neat then and realize how stupid that was now.
ReplyDeleteI had a walkman when I was little but then it was called a transistor radio. I remember hearing Bobby Sherman singing and my sister swooning over him. She was also a member of the Danno fan club - Hawaii Five-0 - book'em Danno! (more swooning) And YES! everyone played in the streets. I had some patchwork bell bottoms that were shredded at the bottom from my bike gear. Regardless of the tatters I thought I was cool. Looking back later at pictures I realized just how hideous they were.
ReplyDeleteNo Eddie we were cool. We defined cool and nobody can take that away! Lol!
ReplyDeleteGreat memories! I can remember how hard it was to ride up those hills on Old Woodbine, especially the big one right before your house. I don't think I could ever get all the way up that one without getting off to push my bike at the top. Longchamps was a little easier but then I had to ride by Jon Buckner's house and he scared me. Any idea what happened to him? Down at our end of the neighborhood we played in the sewer pipe by the Stewarts' house and in the woods by Nancy Creek. I don't think my mom ever had any idea where we were! Todd Oliver (I think - it may have been the Fraziers) put up a rope swing over Nancy Creek. I was never strong enough to hold on all the way across and back, and why I kept trying is beyond me now! But, I would always fall off into the creek or into the banks. I'm sure no one would think that was safe for kids to do now! It probably wasn't safe then either, but no one seemed to care. Whenever I hear Jefferson Starship's Count on Me, I think of you, because I remember listening to that at your house. You must have had the album because I also remember looking at the words and 8-tracks didn't have those. Good times!
ReplyDeleteJon turned out ok. He is a Dad. Mom is still friends with mrs. Buckner. Oh the rope swing. We could have drowned in that creek!
